The Bird’s Nest Restaurant – Soneva Kiri Eco Resort, Thailand

The Bird’s Nest is one of the most truly unique places in the world to dine. Patrons literally eat inside a giant wicker basket with a leather strap, which has the appearance of a bird’s nest. The supremely comfortable, private dining areas are suspended 16 feet above the ground, providing a spectacular view while enjoying your meal. The nests are suspended so high that the servers would take ages climbing a ladder to them. However, waitstaff uses a zip line to fly up to each nest, take your order, and then deliver a delicious Thai meal. They do this with apparent ease, and it’s amazing to watch.

The Snow Castle Restaurant – Kemi, Finland

If you’re a fan of ice and snow or have a sense of adventure, book at table at the Snow Castle Restaurant in Finland. This unique establishment was first built in 1996 in the city of Kemi, near the Swedish border. Book a room in the surrounding Snow Hotel or get married in the Snow Chapel.

What’s unique about the construction of this place is that both the hotel and restaurant are made completely out of snow and ice. Temperatures inside both establishments are approximately -5 degrees celsius, so you must dress warmly. This restaurant holds a place in the Guiness Book of World Records for being the first snow restaurant, with the longest walls.

The dining menu leans heavily towards fish, but offers other options. Some items include lamb and various soup selections. To book a table at The Snow Castle and reserve for the winter months. The restaurant is closed in the spring, fall, and summer, (since it melts)! The entire hotel and restaurant are rebuilt each year and open at the end of January.

Ithaa Undersea Restaurant – Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Maldives

Staff and customers enter a magical venue via a long jetty with a spiral staircase winding into the Indian Ocean. It is situated five metres (16 feet) below sea level. Guests seated at fourteen tables enjoy meals surrounded by spectacular fish and other varied marine life swimming outside a clear acrylic canopy. Diners feel as if they are “in the ocean” without the requisite scuba gear. On Ithaa’s menu you’ll find delicious European and Asian dishes made with local spices and produce.

The Ithaa Undersea Restaurant opened on April 15, 2005. It will only last until 2025, however, because the construction materials will eventually erode. If you want to book a holiday, make reservations and try out this unique underwater experience while surrounded by a coral reef.

Maiden’s Tower – Istanbul, Turkey

This restaurant is located inside an old tower which was originally built in 1110. It is located in the Sea of Marmara, at the heart of the Bosphorus Strait. The tower is situated exactly at the intersection where the continents of Asia and Europe come together.

The original tower was made of wood and had a stone wall in front of it which served as protection. A chain made of iron extended from the tower and stretched to the shore where it was attached to a different tower. The rock where the Maiden Tower was situated was connected to the shore through a defense wall. The remains of that wall still exist. Over the centuries, the tower served many purposes as a lighthouse, watchtower, and quarantine station. It was destroyed many times (either by natural disasters or by fire), and was rebuilt and restored. The most recent restoration was in 1998 when steel supports were added to the tower to protect it from future earthquakes. The inside of the structure was completely remodeled into a classy cafe and restaurant which guests get to by boat.

The Maiden’s Tower has a somewhat dark and exotic legend associated with it. Originally, it was apparently built by a well-known emperor to honour and protect his daughter. He did this because there was a prophecy that she would get bitten by a poisonous snake on her 18th birthday and die. When the prophecy came true, the girl allegedly died in her father’s arms at the top of the tower. This is the location of the  restaurant, and has a spectacular patio view. The menu consists of mostly standard international fare like pasta, sandwiches, wraps, and hamburgers.

The restaurant is situated inside a massive French-style mansion that sits on top of a hill with water-view. It was founded on December 12th, 2012 in the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. This authentic French cuisine offered here is a rarity in Vietnam. Guests are free to wander and explore the many dining rooms, hopefully not getting lost in the maze-like design. They can also take an organized tour of the various rooms in the restaurant, with a guide explaining the history of each. Every individual space is decorated with items purchased all over the world. The food is fine dining, and it’s a mixture of French and Asian fare.
